Denver, Colorado is one of the most scenic places to live in the entire United States. Not many locations can boast a sprawling metropolis, national parks, winding rivers, enormous mountains, and a myriad of other amenities that make residents in the greater Denver area among the happiest in the country. You may have also read about the clear skies in Denver, or that the area gets “300 days of sunshine a year”.
While Denver is certainly a beautiful, sunny place, it’s hard to believe that the Colorado metropolis gets sunshine more than 80% of the year. So how sunny is Denver? Well, the truth is, 300 days of clear skies might not be the most accurate. Denver gets around 115 “clear days” according to the NOAA National Climatic Data Center. The good news is that Denver still gets sunshine around 69% of the time, which is good enough for sixth best among all cities in the U.S.
Denver also receives over 3100 hours of sunshine every year; more than San Diego, San Francisco and Tampa. No wonder our residents love spending so much time taking advantage of the beautiful natural scenery. Most people outside of Colorado wouldn’t exactly imagine Denver as a place to vacation to and get a bronze tan, but the statistics say otherwise.
So What are the Downsides?
Sunshine is directly correlated with a happier population, which is great news for Denver residents. The health benefits of getting consistent exposure to sunshine are undeniable, but that doesn’t mean they come without any risks.
While sunlight is important for vitamin D production in our bodies, overexposure to UV is directly linked to skin cancer and other damaging health effects. Of course, using common sense is the best way to protect yourself from many of the potential harms of sunlight. Hiding under a blanket all day likely isn’t great for your health, either, so make smart choices.
Window Tint Can Help
Sunscreen, sunglasses, and hydration are most important when spending a day enjoying the beautiful trails of Colorado. And if you’re indoors, window tint can be a great addition to any home, office, or vehicle to protect your skin from UV light while still being able to enjoy natural sunlight. Many modern window films are capable of blocking more than 99% of ultraviolet light and can help with glare and indoor climate control costs. UV light doesn’t just hurt your skin, either. This volatile form of light can damage flooring, upholstery, and fabrics, resulting in fading and costly replacement.
Our residents agree, living in Denver, Colorado is one of the best places to be in the world. We wouldn’t trade our consistent sunshine for anything, and the positives far outweigh the negatives. At the end of the day, protecting your home, vehicles, and family is easy with the right window tint.
